History

The Central Asian Shepherd dog dates back to 5,000 years of history.  There are archeological finds dating back

28,000 from Afghanistan that have Molossor busts resembling the Central Asian Shepherd dog.  These dogs are not

man made but a direct influence of the climate and the environment they lived in.  In their domain they have

predators like the Snow leopard, the Siberian tiger, the Asiatic wolf, jackal, black bear, and several other predators.

Therefore this breed had to be very powerful and agile to protect against these predators.  From the very early

civilizations the ears and tails were cropped.  These dogs were used in the silk route that stretched from Persia to

India.  The nomads used these dogs for protection and hunting big and small game.  The other reason this breed

survived and became the nomad’s best friend is that these dogs did not require much food and maintenance to

survive.  They were usually fed leftovers or had to go hunt for themselves.  This breed is often compared or mistaken

for the Caucasian Ovcharka which is a different breed with different standards.  Many breeders around the world are

doing the best to preserve this ancient breed of dog and its original standards.
